Avon #1 in Season's First USHR Poll
Avon, from what we've seen in the season's first few weeks, is the clear team to beat, at least thus far. They have speed, depth, play with pace, and are strong on the blue line and in net. The Winged Beavers have no obvious weaknesses.
This can't be said of the other teams in our Top 10 this week, pretty much all of whom seem to lack goal scorers. We've never seen such a dearth of firepower at the prep level -- ever. the rise of the hockey academies, and players leaving for juniors and the NTDP, certainly plays a role. But still...
As an aside note: The U.S. National Junior team begins preliminary-round play Dec. 26th vs. Latvia. We've never seen a US National Junior Team with less of a prep presence. Only one player, forward Tyler Boucher, who was at Avon as a sophomore in 2018-19 before leaving for the NTDP, has played New England prep hockey.

Brooks/Pingree Playoffs - Sunday, December 18th, 2022
There will be 9:00 AM and 11:30 AM games at both Brooks and Pingree. The championship game will be held at Brooks, the third-place game at Pingree, and additional consolation games at each. The only exception would be if Pingree were to make the championship game and Brooks did not. In that scenario, the championship game would be moved to Pingree and the third-place game moved to Brooks.

Owls' senior G Daniel Norton (40/43) took the loss.
Tabor 3 @ North Yarmouth Academy 0 -- Tabor senior G Gus Ackerman posted a 23-save shutout and his teammates broke through with three goals in the third period, the final one an ENG. Senior D Alec O'Connor's 5x3 goal at 0:26 of the period proved to be the only goal the undefeated (3-0-1) Seawolves needed. Junior Keanan Dewberry's goal midway through the period provided some breathing room. NYA senior Aidan Farion (27/29) took the loss.
@ Avon Old Farms 8, Trinity-Pawling 0 -- Senior F Joe Connor scored a pair of goals and added an assist, while six of his teammates found the back of the net to lead host Avon to the blowout win. Avon outshot T-P, 38-16. Senior G Stephen Peck posted his third shutout of the season for the Winged Beavers, who have outscored their opponents 21-1 and are 4-0-0 in the young season.
@ St. Sebastian's 4, Exeter 0 -- Junior G Pelle Russo (31 saves) earned his second shutout of the season and sophomore F Teddy Mutryn (2g,1a) had a three-point afternoon. Other Arrows goals were scored by junior Matt Cataldo and freshman Casey Mutryn. Junior Isaac Mitchell picked up a pair of assists. Seb's is 3-1-0, with their only loss a 4-2 decision at Milton last week.
Nobles 2 @ Dexter 1 -- A 5x3 second-period goal from senior Austin Tasca held up as the game-winner as Nobles snuck out of Dexter's rink with the win that keeps them undefeated at 3-0-1. Sophomore goaltender Thatcher Bernstein kicked out 24 of 25 for the win. Earlier, senior D Brian Grant had given Nobles its first goal, an unassisted tally. Junior Cullen Emery scored Dexter's lone goal.
@ Portsmouth Abbey 5, Hebron 1 -- Sophomores Hunter McCarthy (2g,1a) and Logan McManus (1g,2a) led the Ravens attack, and junior Patrick McDevitt (26/27) had a strong showing in net to lead his team (3-1-0) to the home win. The Abbey held a 47-27 edge in shots.
Kents Hill 2 @ Worcester Academy 1 -- PG forward Ben Cohen's goal at 0:17 of the third stood up as the game-winner, and PG goaltender Ryan Rosenau kicked out 27 of the 28 shots he faced to earn the win. Senior Theo Dimopoulos first-period goal gave a 1-0 lead, and that's where things stood until the third. Senior F Connor Benoit scored Worcester's lone goal, and junior G Braden Clifford (36/38) took the hard-luck loss.
@ Holderness 6, Vermont Academy 1 -- Senior Thomas Duane (2g,1a) and junior Jake Boulanger (1g,2a) each had three points and junior G Ryan Nolan (11/12) earned the rocking-chair win to lead the Bulls, now 4-1-0. Vermont junior G Owen Willgos was shelled, facing 47 shots.
@ St. Mark's 5, Brooks 0 -- Senior F Sebbie Johnson had a pair of goals and junior D Calvin Beard had two assists to lead the St. Mark's attack. Goaltenders Charles Watson (17/17) and Alex Tarves (4/4) combined for the shutout. St. Mark's improves to 5-1-0.
Westminster 4 @ Brunswick 3 (OT) -- Westminster, after giving up a go-ahead goal to Brunswick with 30 seconds on the clock, proceeded to pull one out of the hat. First, Martlets' junior D Matt Hanscom, with the goalie pulled and the extra attacker on, scored on a buzzer-beater from the point to tie the game at 3-3 and send it to OT. Once there, Westy capitalized on their opportunity, as junior F Ryan Shaw won it, scoring off a net-front scramble at the 1:11 mark. A big win for Westminster (3-0-0,) and one tough loss for Brunswick (2-3-0). Hanscom (2g,1a) led the Martlets scorers. Patrick Dotson (1g,1a), Shaw (1g,1a), and Volo (2a) all had multiple points. In net, junior Matteo DeLuca (32/35) earned the win. Brunswick senior G Brendan Holahan (25/29) took the loss.
@ Proctor 7, St. Paul's 2 -- Proctor scored 5 straight goals to break a 2-2 tie and put this one to bed. Hornets' junior F Nolan Davis (3g,1a) and senior F Nick Marrocco (2g) led the Hornets' attack. In net, junior Caden Pasqualone (30/32) earned the win. St. Paul's freshman Blake Truchon (55/62) was shelled.
@ Pomfret 5, Pingree 2 -- Juniors Jesse Heinberg (2g,1a) and junior Louie Marcellino (1g,1a), and senior Cameron Geary (1g,1a) led the Pomfret attack, which included two short-handed goals. Pomfret junior Beau Johnson (24/26) earned the win in net.
@ Northfield Mt. Hermon 7, Académie Saint-Louis 0 -- Senior Jacob Fletcher (1g,2a) paced the NMH attack. Fletcher was one of seven Hoggers to score a goal. Junior G Tommy Adams stopped all 13 shots he faced. ASL junior Alexis Clemént (53/60) saw enough rubber to last him until Christmas.
@ Berkshire 3, Lawrenceville 1 -- A PPG from sophomore F Walker Bright with 15 seconds left in the first period held up as the game-winner. Earlier, Evan Engalnd had scored Berkshire's first goal of the game. L'ville would cut the lead to 2-1 on Porter Byrd-Leitner's 5x3 goal in the second period. Jaden Davis added an insurance goal in the third period. Berkshire got a strong game from Danick Leroux (30/31). L'ville's Kyle Ozgun (22/25) took the loss.
Frederick Gunn 6 @ Williston Northampton 1 -- Senior Michael Markowski scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season and junior Mitchell McCusker went 25/26 in net as Gunn improved to a NEPSIHA-best 6-0-0. Perry Gaudreau scored Williston's only goal late in the first.
@ Rivers 4, Groton 1 -- The Red Wings outshot Groton 43-13 en route to their first win this season in five tries. Ten different Rivers skaters registered a point and junior goaltender Jason Delehoy saved 12 of 13 shots. For Groton, junior Ethan Ramonetti went 39/43 in net and Forrest Nelson scored the lone goal.
@ Kimball Union 11, Brewster 1 -- Behind a six-goal second period, KUA coasted to a blowout win over Brewster. senior AJ Noel (2g, 2a), junior Jack Sadowski (2g, 1a), and senior Daniel Tokariwski (1g, 2a) led the way. Junior Colby Boyce (18/19) got the win in goal.
@ New Hampton 3, Andover 2 (OT) -- Junior Ben Moalusi's goal 1:41 into overtime was the decider in New Hampton's come-from-behind win. Andover led 2-0 on second-period goals by Joey Zheng and Peyton Militello. NHS tied it thanks to two freshmen -- a powerplay goal from freshman Dylan Podergois and fellow freshman Cam Caron's game-tying goal with the extra attacker on and 1:10 left in the third. Nate Zerrenner picked up the win in net.
@ Loomis Chaffee 4, Canterbury 2 -- Like in last season's meeting between the two clubs, Canterbury went up 2-0 in the first period but also, like in last season's meeting, Loomis won handily. Senior G Andrew Heinze (20/22) picked up his fourth win of the young season. Junior forward Eli Velepec (1g, 1a) notched the game-winner at 6:40 of the third.
@ Belmont Hill 7, Lawrence Academy 1 -- Belmont Hill senior Dante Carter (2g, 2a) and junior Jake McManus (1g, 2a) led the Sextants, who climbed to second in the ISL's Keller Division standings with the win. Ty Wood's third-period goal was all LA got.
@ Deerfield 5, Choate 2 -- In a game that featured 12 penalties in total, four of which were misconducts, Deerfield remained in the ever-diminishing group of undefeated teams -- a total of nine -- in New England. PG Nate Neithoff and junior Tom Molson tallied two goals and two assists each. Junior goaltender John Tolve kicked out 23 of 25 for the win. Seniors Mac Cady and Evan Partridge scored for Choate. Wild Boars senior G Primo Baldassare turned away 31 of the 35 shots he faced.
@ Kent 3, Salisbury 1 -- The defending Large School champs knocked off the defending Elite 8 champs behind junior goaltender Aidan Hopewell, who turned away 37 of 38 shots. Junior Owen Mahar assisted on two of the three Kent goals—by juniors Gio DiGulian and Denver Damphousse. For Salisbury, PG goaltender Matt Alberti turned away 20 of 22 shots, and junior forward Nolan Hens scored the Scarlet Knights lone goal.
@ St. George's 2, Millbrook 1 -- At Trinity College, Tate Pecknold -- a transfer from Avon Old Farms and the son of Quinnipiac head coach Rand Pecknold -- scored two powerplay goals to lift St. George's. Dragons' junior goaltender Matthew DellaRusso came up big, kicking out 31 of the 32 shots. Senior Reese Judson's PP goal was it for Millbrook scoring.

Storella Caps off a Wild One for Tilton
Andover's 1-0 Win All About the Goaltending
Gorski, Salisbury Come from Behind
Cataldo and Mitchell's Dual Hat Tricks Lead Arrows
Wilbraham & Monson's Goalie Stops 65 Shots
Harrington's OT Goal Wins it for Holderness
@ Gunn 7, Berkshire 1 -- Junior Alex LoGuerico scored a pair of goals, sophomore D Jake Pellicane and junior Jacob Rothman each had 3 assists, and five other Highlanders had a goal apiece. Junior G Mitchell McCusker (29/30) had a strong showing in net. Gunnery is 4-0-0 in the early going, and has outscored opponents, 27-5.
@ Tilton 6, New Hampton 5 (OT) -- Tilton junior F Danny Storella's goal at 1:33 of OT lifted the host Rams to a dramatic win in a game that contained more lead changes than a horse race at a county fair. Consider: Tilton held a 3-1 lead at the start of the third (and probably felt pretty good about its chances), but gave up a pair of goals in the period's opening minutes, both off the stick of New Hampton senior F Gavin Brandon. Suddenly, the game was knotted at 3-3. Tilton had to do something -- and quickly. They did, as Kai Tsoar and Alex Walsh scored to recapture the two-goal lead. But was that the end of things? No way. With the game winding down, and less than four minutes on the clock, New Hampton junior F Dylan McDougall took matters into his own hands, striking for a pair, one on the PP and one with the goalie pulled and 35 seconds on the clock. As quick as that, it was on to OT, where Tilton redeemed itself -- and gave the home crowd some relief -- on Storella's second goal of the game. Tilton improves to 3-1-0, while New Hampton remains winless at 0-3-1.
Avon 3 @ Taft 1 -- Senior Charlie Gollub notched a pair of goals and classmate Joe Connor assisted on all of Avon's goals. Senior G Stephen Peck allowed his first goal of the season, a third-period tally from Rhinos' senior captain JJ Lemieux. Avon (3-0-0) held a 48-21 edge in shots.
Kent 6 @ Brunswick 4 -- In a rematch of last season's Large School Championship game, Kent (3-1-0) once again came out on top. This time around, Brunswick held a 3-2 lead after two periods, and a 4-3 lead in the third. But a PPG from Kent junior D Alex Bales, a Providence recruit, tied it up at 4-4 midway through the period. Senior Hudson Small scored the GWG with 3:37 left on the clock. Junior Gio DiGiulian sealed it, scoring his second goal of the game, an empty-netter in the final minute. Junior G Aidan Hopewell (32/37) picked up the win in net.
@ Westminster 8, Choate 2 -- Choate scored the game's first and last goal. But in between, it was all Westy. Junior Ryan Shaw (3g,1a), and sophomores Blake Burke (1g,2a) and Derek Rhodes (3a) were the top point producers for the Martlets. Junior G Matteo DeLuca kicked out 26 shots for the win. Westminster (2-0-0) outshot Choate, 42-28.
@ Andover 1, Thayer 0 -- A third-period goal from Andover senior F Nolan Roche may have won it. But this was a goaltender's battle. Andover junior Ben Scowronek, of Arlington, Virginia, stopped all 33 shots he faced for his first prep shutout -- in his second career game. At the other end, Thayer senior Beau Lane kicked out 25 of 26 shots. He can hold his head high, too.
Salisbury 5 @ Hotchkiss 4 -- A goal from junior D Hudson Gorski with 2:16 remaining lifted Salisbury to a 5-4 road win in the corner of Northwest Connecticut. It wasn't easy getting there, however. Hotchkiss held a 3-0 lead halfway through, but that's when the Scarlet Knights went to work, scoring one in the second and two more early in the third to tie things up at 3-3. But the Bearcats clawed their way back, taking a 4-3 lead midway through the third on an unassisted goal from sophomore Emmett Roswech. But they couldn't hold it. Salisbury senior F Michael Strapp tied the game with 3:06 left. Fifty seconds later, Gorski notched his game-winner as Salisbury improves to 3-1-0. Salisbury senior D Alex Zakrzewski (1g,2a) led all scorers
@ Loomis 2, Pomfret 0 -- Loomis senior G Andrew Heinze posted a 24-save shutout, and junior F Ben Carfora and senior D Michael Karvelas each scored a goal as the Pelicans improve to 3-0-0. Pomfret junior G Beau Johnson (37/39) took the hard-luck loss.
@ St. Sebastian's 6, Portsmouth Abbey -- For Seb's, juniors Matt Cataldo and Isaac Mitchell each tallied a hat trick in the Arrows' 6-1 thrashing of Portsmouth Abbey. Arrows' netminder Pelle Russo (32/33) has only surrendered a single goal through two games, good for a 0.50 GAA. Sophomore Hunter McCarthy scored the Ravens' only goal.
Williston Northampton 4 @ Cushing 4 -- Cushing (1-0-3) outshot Williston, 48-23, but had to settle for its third tie of the season. Cushing seniors Linas Dedinas and Zach Rizzo led the Penguins with a goal and an assist each. For Williston, postgrad TJ Sullivan scored twice and assisted on another. Williston junior G Jake Henry turned aside 44 Cushing shots; Penguins senior netminder Cooper Rautenstrauch saved 19 of 23.
@ Millbrook 2, Wilbraham & Monson 0 -- Millbrook took 67 shots, but was only able to beat W&M's sophomore goalie Samuel Zygulski twice. Third period goals from sophomore Cole Mollica and junior Dale Campbell were all the Mustangs got. W&M put just seven shots on net; Millbrook senior Gabe Vassallo stopped them all.
@ Holderness 3, Brewster 2 (OT) -- Holderness junior D Caeden Harrington scored the game-winner on the PP at 0:39 of overtime. After junior Jake Boulanger and senior Aidan O'Connell scored in the first and second to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead, Brewster answered with goals from seniors James Evans and Dalton Kane to send the game to OT. Evan Plunkett stopped 22 of 24 shots in the win. Brewster's Patrick Green (45/48) was the tough-luck loser.
@ Brooks 5, Middlesex 2 -- Brooks senior Jeremy Emch (3g, 1a) had a hat trick before the game's midpoint and junior Ethan Simpson saved 26 of 28 Middlesex shots. The Zebras got goals from sophomore D Nolan Marsters and junior Tedy O'Keefe—both in the second. Brooks' other goal-scorers were senior Will Rassier and junior D Scott Moritz.
Nobles 4 @ Tabor 4 -- Sophomore F Ted MacAusland's game-tying goal for Nobles with two minutes left in regulation -- his third goal of the season -- lifted Nobles to the road tie. McAusland and junior Liam McCarthy each scored a goal and assisted on another. For the Seawolves, seniors Jack DesRuisseaux (2g, 1a) and Zavier Vaillancourt (1g, 1a) led the way. Nobles started junior Tyler Bloomfield in net for the first time this year; he stopped 37 of 41 shots. Tabor senior Gus Ackerman went 47/51.
Roxbury Latin 1 @ Groton 1 -- RL junior G Evan Zhang (31/32) and Groton junior G Etham Ramonetti turned aside (23/24) were the story here. Foxes senior Patrick Schultz gave his team the lead in the second, but Groton sophomore Zach Baker lifted his team to the late on a six-on-five goal with 26 seconds left in regulation.
@ Deerfield 2, Northfield Mount Hermon 1 -- Second period scores from junior Jakub Kohn and postgrad Nate Heithoff backed John Tolve's 29/30 performance in the Big Green's 2-1 win over the Hoggers. Senior F Bobby Lachance scored NMH's lone goal in the third and sophomore G Kyle Bolduc went 24/26 in the tough-luck loss.
@ Lawrence 5, Milton 2 -- Three straight goals -- by juniors GP Giamartino and Logan Neal in the second and Spencer Hirsch in the third -- broke a 2-2 first-period deadlock and propelled the Spartans to a 5-2 win. Milton's goals came from seniors Madden Powers and Mikka Kelechian.
@ St. George's 3, Rivers 2 -- Senior F Ben Buckley, a Dartmouth commit, scored two goals, the second of which tied the game at 2-2 early in the third period. Sophomore Colin Walsh then notched the game-winner with 7:36 left to hoist the Dragons to a come-from-behind home win over Rivers. Junior G Ryder Shea, a Maine commit, got the win, going 28/30 in net. The Red Wings' goal scorers were eighth grader Freddy Meyer and freshman Justin Graf. A young team indeed.
Pingree 4 @ Berwick 2 -- Pingree scored four time in the game's first 23 minutes—three times on the PP—and held on to win at Berwick. Junior F Quinn Moses (2g) led the way for the Highlanders. Junior Michael Delage and sophomore Ryan Dube scored in the third for Berwick. Nick Hubbard (25/27) was the winner in net; Matthew Pimentel (20/24) was the loser.
Harvey 6 @ Kingswood Oxford 5 -- Vincent Andren (2g, 3a), Jordan Freund (2g, 1a), and Zack Marvin (2g) split the scoring duties evenly in Harvey's 6-5 win in West Hartford. Richard Sullivan went 21/16 for the winners. Freund's second goal was the winner with 6:38 left.
@ St. Mark's 6, Worcester 3 -- The Lions jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the 12:12 mark in the first period, and rode a solid 19/22 showing by senior goalie Jeevan Anand (19/22) to move to 3-1-0 on the young season. Six different St. Mark's players scored, with sophomore Richard Gallant (3a) posting the game high in points. WA's goal-scorers were juniors Connor Dozois (2g, 1a) and Joe DeCesare (1g).
North Yarmouth 5 @ Kents Hill 1 -- Junior Grey Perham scored twice and senior Aidan Farion saved all but one of the 19 shots he faced in NYA's road victory at Kents Hill. The visitors led 4-0 in the third period before junior Marcus Macchioni scored the Huskies' lone goal.

Stanstead College 3 @ Cushing 3 -- Stanstead junior F Logan Sawyer scored all three goals as Stanstead, down 3-1 in the 2nd period, fought back to earn the tie. Stanstead senior G Wills Seagrave stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced.
@ Avon 5, Hill 0 -- Seniors Joe Odyniec (2g,1a), Joe Connor (3a), Arthur Mirante (2g), and Charlie Gollub (1g,1a) led the Winged Beavers' attack. Senior G Stephen Peck stopped all 15 shots he faced.
North Yarmouth Academy 5 @ Vermont Academy 2 -- NYA broke a 1-1 third-period tie with three straight goals (two were on the PP). Grey Perham (1g,2a), Louka Vamvakas (3a), Hugo Daniel (2g), and Ethan Brochu (1g,1a) led the Panthers' attack.
Portsmouth Abbey 6 @ Kents Hill 2 -- Sophomore Hunter McCarthy (2g,1a) was the offensive standout for the Ravens. Junior Patrick McDevitt (31/33) earned the win in net.
Proctor 7 @ Brewster 2 -- Entering the 2nd period locked in a 2-2 tie, Proctor scored 5 unanswered goals. Juniors Tyler Gwatkin (1g,2a), Avan Pyle (3a), and Nolan Davis (2g) led the Hornets' attack. Sophomore G Chris Dakers (20/22) picked up the win.
Tilton 8 @ St. Paul's 1 -- Led by post-grads Keegan Booth (2g,1a) and Braden O'Hara (2g,1a), and senior Quinn Booth (3a), the Rams scored 4 goals in each of the first two periods. Senior Conor Waldron (18/19) earned the win in net.
Loomis Chaffee 4 @ Trinity-Pawling 3 (OT) -- Despite Holy Cross commit Will Reardon's scoring twice for Loomis -- in the first and then again in the second -- T-P still held a 3-2 lead after two periods. But, LC sophomore Gennaro Pompano tied the game early in the third and junior D Drew Anastasio won it at 0:21 of overtime. T-P's goals came from Raphael Denis, Jason Musa, and Lucas Buchanan (shorthanded). The second period, third period, and overtime were played without the ice being cut, because Trinity-Pawling's Zamboni broke.
Gunn 11, New Hampton 2 -- At the Exeter Tournament, Gunn scored 7 goals in a second-period rampage to put this one out of reach. Juniors Alex LoGuercio (2g,2a), Mark Pizzo (4a), and Jacob Rothman (hat trick) led the attack. Junior G Mitchell McCusker kicked out 32 shots in his prep debut. Gunn held a 48-34 edge in shots.
@ Hotchkiss 5, Canterbury 3 -- Juniors Brennan Cail (1g,2a) and James Mackey (1g,1a) led the Bearcats' offense. Sophomore G Connor Towle stopped 25 of the 28 shots he faced.
St. Mark's 2 @ Winchendon 0 -- Senior G Jeevan Anand posted a 28-save shutout, and junior Andrew Gibbons (1g,1a) and senior Sebbie Johnson (1g) provided all the offense the Lions needed.
Académie Saint-Louis 5 @ Roxbury Latin 0 -- ASL junior forward Zach Séguin tallied three points, including a pair of power-play goals in the third period, in a 5-0 pounding of Roxbury Latin. ASL goalie Alexis Clément, a junior, got the win, kicking out all 25 shots he faced.
Berwick 3 @ Worcester Academy 1 -- Berwick junior F Eli Chilicki contributed to all three goals in the Bulldogs' win, scoring on the power play in the first, assisting junior Michael Delage's goal in the third, and icing the game with an empty-netter with eight seconds left. Worcester's only goal came from Mark Evangelous, shorthanded in the first. Berwick sophomore goalie Matthew Pimentel went 41/42 in the win.
@ Tabor 4, Pomfret 1 -- Tabor went up 4-0 after two periods against Pomfret, on goals from Alec O'Connor (PPG in the first), Keanan Dewberry (another PPG in the first), Brad Guden at 15:04 of the first, and Jack DesRuisseaux midway through the second. After five periods of play-- between its first game against Nobles and second against the Seawolves -- Pomfret had been outscored 13-0. It finally got its first goal of the season when junior Louie Marcellino made it 4-1 midway through the third.
Salisbury 4 @ Williston 1 -- Salisbury took the lead on Syracuse lacrosse commit Trey Deere's first goal of the season in the first period, but Williston tied the game when Felix-Antoine Bouchard answered less than 90 seconds later. Then Knights junior F Nicolas Petrut gave Salisbury the lead again at 14:31 of the first, and they pulled away on a SHG goal from junior D Hudson Gorski early in the third. An empty-netter from junior Duke Gentzler sealed the deal in the final minute. Salisbury's junior G Cooper Flemming saved 28 of 29 shots; the Wildcats' Tyler Kirk went 25/28 and took the loss.
Lawrence Academy 4 @ Choate 4 -- The Spartans and Wild Boars skated to a 4-4 tie in a crazy back-and-forth game in Wallingford. LA took the lead on junior Spencer Hirsch's first period goal, then Choate took a 2-1 lead into the second with scores by Thomas Plamondon and Jake Gelman (5-on-3). Lawrence answered with two of its own—by Owen Leahy and Clarence Beltz—but Choate's Jack Badeer's shorthander at 7:20 of the second tied the game 3-3. Benjamin Darche gave Choate a 4-3 lead with 1:43 left before senior D Marek Thompson of LA tied the game with six seconds left and the Lawrence goalie pulled. Choate Primo Baldassarre, who went 38/42, and LA's Luc Gagnon (33/37), each kept his opponent off the board in OT.
Brooks 4 @ BB&N 2 -- Goals came in pairs when Brooks took down BB&N in Cambridge, starting with first-period strikes from Brooks sophomore forward Griffin Bucci and senior Jeremy Emch. After a scoreless second, BB&N tied the score -- on goals from Brady MacCutcheon and Daigo Hotta -- before Brooks won the game with Connor Herlihy and Brett Niland's goals in the final six minutes.
Nobles 4 @ Belmont Hill 2 -- Senior captain D Matt Tully scored or assisted on three of the Bulldogs' four goals. Ted McAusland scored the other for his third goal of the season. Thatcher Bernstein kicked out 26 of the 28 shots he faced. Nobles went up 4-0 and held on to win 4-2 win, even after goals by Sextants' sophomore D Jack Duffy and senior F Daniel Markham made things interesting.
@ Westminster 3, NMH 2 -- In a come-from-behind win, Westy's Matteo De Luca saved 26 of 28 shots and Brian Judge scored the game-winner with 5:54 remaining. Westminster outscored NMH 2-1 in the third period to come from behind and beat the Hoggers 3-2. The other Martlets goals came from Rowan Masse, an Old Dominion baseball commit, and Michael Bianco. NMH's goals were by seniors Joseph Dable and Cade DeWolf.
@ Holderness 5, Pingree 1 -- Five Holderness goals -- each from a different scorer -- in the first 26 minutes were too much for Pingree to overcome in a 4-1 loss. Holderness goalie Ryan Nolan saved 21 of 22 in the win. Luke Marinelli of Pingree kicked away 40 of 45.
Brunswick 6, Exeter 3 -- At the Exeter Tournament, host Exeter held a 3-1 lead over Brunswick midway through the second period. Brunswick then exploded with five unanswered goals. Junior Drew Della Salla (2g,3a) and senior James Shannon (2g,2a) were the standouts in this one. Senior Brendan Holahan (20/23) picked up the win in the Bruins' net.
Kent 6, Hebron 3 -- At the Exeter Tournament, Kent held leads of 2-1, 4-2, and 6-3 after each period -- an efficient, grinding attack. Each of Kent's 6 goals was scored by a different player. Juniors Sam Pfefferle (1g,2a) and Peter Skoglund (1g,2a) were the leading point-getters. Junior G Aidan Hopewell was solid, stopping 31 of 34 shots.
Albany Academy 4 @ Andover 2 -- Senior Luke Kurdziolek had a pair of goals, and senior Devin Shakar (34/36) was strong in net. Andover junior Ben Scowronek (46/49) stood strong in the first game of his prep career.
Kimball Union 5, Rivers 0 -- At the Exeter Tournament, the Wildcats got goals from five different scorers. Junior goalie Connor Boyce posted a 24-save shutout. The season is young, but Rivers -- with an 8th grader, six freshman, and four sophomores -- has got to be the youngest prep team we've seen thus far.
Deerfield 5 @ Groton 1 -- Junior Tom Molson had a pair of goals and junior G John Tove, with 14 saves, picked up the win in net. Deerfield outshot their hosts, 45-15.
@ Westminster 3, NMH 2 -- Westy's Matteo De Luca saved 26 of 28 shots and Brian Judge scored the game-winner from Derek Rhodes with 5:54 remaining. Westminster outscored NMH 2-1 in the third period to come from behind and beat the Hoggers 3-2. The other Martlets goals came from Old Dominion baseball commit Rowan Masse and Michael Bianco. NMH's goals were by seniors Joseph Dable and Cade DeWolf.
@ Holderness 5, Pingree 1 -- Five Holderness goals in the first 26 minutes were too much for Pingree to overcome in a 4-1 loss. 11 different Bulls registered a point; Colin Butters (1g, 1a) led the way with two. Pingree's goal came at 14:47 of the third by junior winger Ryan Kavanagh. Holderness goalie Ryan Nolan saved 21 of 22 in the win. Luke Marinelli of Pingree kicked away 40 of 45.
Albany Academy 4 @ Andover 2 -- Albany jumped to 2-0 on the season with its second win over a Massachusetts prep foe. Senior Alex Marasciulo broke a 1-1 tie with 6:18 left and Jack Darby broke a 2-2 tie with 52 seconds left. Devin Shakar of Albany (34/36) and Andover's Ben Scowronek (46/49) both played well.

@ Gunn 4, Hotchkiss 1 -- Gunn got three goals—each from a different scorer—in the first period, and senior G Ryan Crowshaw kicked out 26 shots for the win.
Millbrook 5 @ Canterbury 4 -- Millbrook carried a 4-1 lead into the third period, but let it slip away as host Canterbury scored three third-period goals. Just when it was looking like it was going to be a long ride home for Millbrook, junior Dale Campbell came up with the game-winner midway through OT. It was Campbell's second goal of the game. He also had an assist.
Milton 4 @ St. Mark's 3 -- Milton senior Brendan Maher's goal at 14:17 of the third period broke a 3-3 tie and sent the Mustangs home happy. Milton senior Mikka Kelechian had a goal and an assist.
@ Holderness 2, Hebron 1 -- A goal from Holderness junior D Caeden Herrington, from Max Tong, broke a 1-1 third-period tie. Tong, a junior, had two assists, thus figuring in both of the Bulls' goals.
@ Kent 5, Hoosac 1 -- First-year junior Owen Mahar, with a goal and two assists, led the Kent scorers. Harrison Fogel, Kent's senior goaltender, kicked out 22 of 23 shots.
@ St. Sebastian's 1, Rivers 0 -- Sophomore F Brendan Keaveney's goal at 1:05 of the first period was all that the Arrows needed. It was Keaveney's first career goal, with assists going to fellow sophomore Ben Merrill and freshman Casey Mutryn. Junior G Pelle Russo earned the shutout, stopping all 34 shots he faced. Rivers' junior G Brendan Nee (26/27) took the hard-luck loss.
Portsmouth Abbey 2 @ BB&N 1 -- Abbey junior F Mark Anstiss broke the 1-1 tie with a goal at 13:13 of the third period to lift the Ravens past host BB&N. Abbey junior goaltender Patrick McDevitt (32/33) earned the win. BB&N senior G David Mallio (33/35) took the loss.
Taft 3 @ Salisbury 2 (OT) -- Taft Junior Alex Kenerson scored a PP tally from fellow senior Zave Greene at 4:45 of OT, giving the Rhinos a 3-2 win over defending prep champions Salisbury. Earlier, Taft junior D Gerrit Lansing and Greene had given Taft a 2-0 lead entering the third. But, in the third, Salisbury roared back, with Rapolas Marcinkevicius scoring a PPG and Ty Creech tying it up late. Salisbury outshot Taft, 43-20. But Taft junior netminder Rudy Guimond had a huge game, kicking out 41 shots for the win. We imagine the bus ride back to Watertown must have been very pleasant for the Rhinos.
@ Avon Old Farms 5, Williston Northampton 0 -- Avon senior Joe Connor, a Northeastern commit, opened the scoring at 9:57 of the first period and Avon never looked back in a 5-0 win over Williston. Twelve different Winged Beavers registered a point. Senior D Rufus Gray, junior Lefty Markonidis, senior Alex Pelletier, and sophomore Won-Jun Yun were AOF's other goal-scorers. Stephen Peck's first game as Avon's goalie was a 17-save shutout.
Governor's 8 @ Proctor 5 -- Governor's senior forward Michael Marchese scored twice— one of which broke a scoreless tie at 8:16 of the first period—and totaled three points in an 8-5 win over Proctor, which last won an opening night game in 2019. Seven other Govs registered at least a point. Hornets' junior Nolan Davis scored twice.
@ Pingree 2, Roxbury Latin 1 -- Sophomores Trey Hanson and Joe Gaffney scored at 3:07 and 8:07 of the third period, respectively, to propel host Pingree to a come-from-behind win over Roxbury Latin. Highlanders junior netminder Nick Hubbard saved 15 of the 16 shots he faced in the win. Junior Jake Novak's first-period tally from Will Archibald and Patrick Schultz was the only goal the Foxes got.
Groton 4 @ North Yarmouth Academy 1 -- An outburst in the second period helped Groton to a season-opening road victory in Yarmouth, Maine. Junior Will Koukopoulos, sophomore Jason Mah, and freshman Alejandro Hassan scored in a span of less than eight minutes in the middle frame. Ethan Ramonetti, the Zebras' junior goaltender, denied 34 of 35 in the win.
Albany Academy 4 @ Berkshire 2 -- Albany senior goalie Will Mizenko stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced in a 4-2 win over Berkshire. The Bears' goals came from postgraduate F Evan England, from Liam Bard at 8:12 of the second period, and senior Tanner Marsh, on the PP from Bard and Jaden Davis at 16:53 of the third.
@ Noble and Greenough 9, Pomfret 0 -- The MacAusland brothers combined for four points—a goal and an assist for Ted and two goals for Billy—as Nobles steamrolled Pomfret 9-0. Sophomore Ben Nakata registered four points by himself, with a second-period goal and three assists. Sophomore Thatcher Bernstein and junior Tyler Bloomfield split time between the pipes for the Bulldogs; the former went 11/11 and the latter went 10/10.
@ St. George's 5, Thayer 2 -- It was a pretty good debut for St. George's sophomore Colin Walsh, who notched a hat trick in the Dragons' win over Thayer. SG led 3-2 after the second, but Dartmouth commit Ben Buckley lit the lamp at 0:22 of the third period, and Walsh iced the game with his third goal at 17:21 of the third. Junior Ryder Shea kicked out 23 of 25 shots in the win. Thayer's two goals came in the second period, from sophomore Teddy Lally and senior Shane Taddia.
@ Kents Hill 3, Austin Prep 2 -- Austin Prep hung with Kents Hill in its NEPSAC hockey debut before ultimately falling, 3-2. Postgraduate forward Pavol Stastny notched the game-winning goal, a short-hander with 55 seconds left in the third period. The earlier Huskies goals came in the second, from postgraduate Ben Cohen at 4:27 and junior Declan Stewart at 8:55. PG goalie Ryan Rosenau went 26/28 in the win. Prep's goals were courtesy of junior Derek Daley, on the PP at 6:00 of the second; and senior Yanni Loyack at 8:43 of the third.
Stanstead College 7 @ Tilton 5 -- Tilton surrendered four unanswered goals in the final 19 minutes in the 7-5 loss. The Rams built a 5-3 lead on goals by senior Aidan Dres, senior Cam Quigley, and postgraduates Alex Walsh, Braden O'Hara, and Keegan Knight before Stanstead's third-period outburst. Tilton's goalie, senior Conor Waldron, stopped 39 of 45 shots in the loss. Stanstead's two goalies, Wills Seagrave and Tomas Nyberg, combined to save 25/30.
New Hampton 3 @ Winchendon 3 -- New Hampton scored twice in the first, Winchendon twice in the second, and each side once in the third as the Huskies and Wapitis played to a 3-3 tie. Both goalies, junior Giovanni Calvanese for Winchendon and junior Nate Zerrenner for New Hampton, were 27/30 in net.
@ Vermont Academy 2, Brewster Academy 1 -- New Brewster coach Billy Rivellini remains in search of his first win after the Bobcats fell behind 2-0 and couldn't recover in a 2-1 loss to Vermont. The Wildcats built their lead on first-period goals by Shane Prusak at 10:24 and Cole Robinson at 14:23. Brewster's only tally came at 9:13 of the third by Doyle Coughlin. Owen Willgos went 37/38 en route to the win in net for Vermont; Patrick Green was the tough-luck loser, stopping 31 of 33 shots at the other end.
