Nicholas Wildgoose (’99) – Forward from the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes – a December ’99 birthdate -- will be a true 11th grader at Avon Old Farms. Cerebral offensive player. Puck just followed him around. Put up a ton of points. Son of former Providence College F Lyle Wildgoose.

2016 USA Hockey Select 16 Camp (‘00s)
Here are our rankings from the 2016 USA Hockey Select 16 Player Development Camp, held July 8-14 at the Northtown Center in Amherst, NY.
We felt that this year there was a little bit more depth on the blue line than up front. We also felt the goaltending was, overall, very good.
Our observations came from the first three days of camp. It’s likely that a few players came on strongly at the end, and perhaps lapped some of those on the below list. Five straight days of games is an awful lot and, with practices and everything else the kids take part in, it’s an exhausting schedule. To maintain a consistent level of play from day to day is no small feat.
A caret (^) indicates a player was named to the All-Star game. An asterisk (*) indicates he was named to the 20-man roster for the Under-17 Five Nations Tournament, which runs from Aug 9-13 in Frisco, Texas. The U.S. will play Switzerland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Germany.
Forwards:
“A” Group:
Ryan Savage^* (#12 Orange) 5’10.25”/176, R, Red Bull Hockey Academy (Salzburg, Austria) – The leading scorer here is an excellent passer and shooter. Had at least a point in every game. Always in the right place. Strong sense of the game. Well-rounded. Competes hard. Consistently noticeable. Miami recruit played at Red Bull Salzburg where he was coached by his dad, former NHLer Brian Savage. Played on US Youth Olympic Team that won gold in February in Lillehammer, Norway. Fargo 1st round pick. Everett 4th round pick in WHL Bantam Draft. (5-5-10)
Jack Randl^* (#9 Gold) 5’10.25”/174, L, Chicago Mission – Michigan recruit. Strong on skates. Plays hard in all three zones. Physical. Skilled. Makes plays. Was key to a tic-tac-toe goal that finished off a rush -- as pretty as any goal we saw all week. Good on forecheck -- plays hard in all three zones. Good release. Has explosiveness to skating. A left wing, he has been signed to a tender by the Omaha Lancers. Also is a Niagara (OHL) 10th round pick. (2-4-6)
Blake McLaughlin^* (#15 White) 5’10.5”/156, L, Grand Rapids HS – Gophers recruit is a left-shot center who is hard on the puck and plays with a relentless energy. A dogged player who protects the puck well, is tenacious along the wall and in the dirty areas, and drives the net. Chicago Steel 1st round pick. (1-2-3)
Gavin Hain^* (#18 Forest Green) 5’10.75”/187, L, Grand Rapids HS –The #1 overall pick in this spring’s USHL Futures Draft, by Sioux Falls, plays an honest game. A center, he has good hands, can skate, and is engaged in the play. Didn’t wow, but he’s a solid player with a variety of skills. A North Dakota recruit. Prince Albert 8th round pick in WHL Bantam Draft. (2-1-3)
Calen Kiefiuk^* (#10 Kelly Green) 5’7.75”/184, L, Honeybaked 16U – Bloomington tender was not as dynamic as he was at 15s, when he was a constant force, but was still very good. Physical. Sees it. Makes plays. Hard on the puck. Solid in all three zones. Erie (OHL) 6th round pick. (2-3-5)
Jeremy Davidson^* (#12 Gold) 5’9.5”/171, R, Shattuck-St. Mary’s U16 – RW from Kalamazoo, Michigan is a former Honeybaked kid who played at Shattuck last year. Racked up points here. TJ Walsh^* (#17 Black) 5’7.5”/163, L, Cushing Academy – Walsh, and his teammates, got off to a slow start, but pulled it together at the end. BC recruit, who also played on US Youth Olympic Team in February in Lillehammer, has all the offensive skill in the world, but was not involved enough physically and defensively. Matt Gould^* (#10 Gold) 5’10”/156, L, Junior Bruins – Providence College recruit was pretty much unknown a year ago, but has come on very strong. Jack Malone^* (#8 Columbia) 5’11”/156, R, Delbarton School – Winger from Delbarton got better as the week went along. We liked him at the Liberty Bell Games in June, and he was even better here. And he’s quite young, an October 2000 birthdate. Youngstown 9th round pick. (2-3-5)
“A-/B+” Group:
Demetrios Koumontzis^ (#12 Royal) 5’8.5”/169, L, Phoenix Junior Coyotes – A Green Bay 2nd round pick and Arizona State recruit, Koumontzis was on a bad team so was a bit of a one-man show offensively. (5-4-9)
Justin Engelkes^ (#14 Columbia) 5’9.5”/173, L, Team Wisconsin and Middleton HS – Winger showed creativity, made plays. Not flashy, but effective. Des Moines 7th round pick. 3-3-6

Jack Perbix (#8 Forest Green) 6’0.25”/164, R, Elk River HS -- Tall, skinny Notre Dame recruit is an intriguing prospect. He’s gawky, but he’s also a September 2000 birthdate, so that will smooth out in time. When he gets moving he’s fine. His hands are good. Older brother Jack is a SCSU recruit. (1-3-4)

(0-1-1)

Pito Walton (#4 White) 6’0.25”/156, R, Lawrenceville School – Lanky defensive D has some size, and showed poise. (0-1-1)
Goaltenders:
1. Drew DeRidder^* (#30 Kelly Green) 5’9.5”/156, Oakland Junior Grizzlies -- Led US Youth Olympic Team to Gold Medal in Lillehammer, Norway in February. Hands-down the best here. In five halves, had three shutouts. Cedar Rapids 3rd round pick. Sault Ste. Marie (OHL) 6th round pick. (1.20/.960)
2. Isaiah Saville^* (#30 Orange) 6’0”/176, West Anchorage HS – Late ’00 birthdate was ridiculously consistent. Did not allow more than one goal in any of his five halves – six if you include the all-star game. Was also one of the top goalies last year at Select 15s, so he’s really making a name for himself. Will be heading to the Lower 48 to play for the Colorado Thunderbirds this fall. (1.37/.948)
3. Jack Faulkner^ (#30 White) 6’0.75”/162, Omaha Lancers AAA – Had one bad day (Day 4), allowing four goals vs. Columbia, but he bounced back. Was 18/17 in All-Star game. Will be playing for the Cleveland Barons in the upcoming season. (1.95/.924)
4. Connor Hopkins (#1 Forest Green) 6’0”/188, Belmont Hill School – Yale recruit was terrific – two shutouts and two one-goal halves -- until the final day, when he allowed three goals to Gold. (2.01/.918)
5. Joshua Graziano (#1 Orange) 6’1.75”/189, Nichols School – Has size, and was consistently good. It’s a little surprising no USHL team took him in the Futures Draft. Owen Sound (OHL) 6th round pick. (2.40/.913)
6. Matthew Sankner (#1 Gold) 5’8.5”/160, Team Comcast U16 – In his five halves, he allowed one goal in each of the first three, then finished week with back-to-back shutouts. Will be playing for Virtua Hockey this season. Small, but very good. Was also one of the better goalies at last summer at Select 15s, so he’s no fluke. (1.20/.944)
7. Darius Bell (#1 Red) 5’11.75”/173, Tampa Scorpions Red AA – Pretty consistent: never allowed more than two goals in a half. Floridian will be heading to Shattuck-St. Mary’s this fall. (2.40/.910)
8. Christian Stoever (#30 Forest Green) 5’11.75”/151, Honeybaked 16U – Will be going to Des Moines, who made him their 3rd round pick in the USHL Futures Draft. Allowed three goals to loaded Orange team, was otherwise pretty unbeatable. (3.20/.879)
9. Reilly Herbst (#30 Gold) 5’7.5”/158, South Kent U16 American – Colorado native had bad opening day, but then settled in nicely. Over the next four days he notched two shutouts and two one-goal games. (2.03/.928)
10. Todd Scott (#1 Royal) 5’11.75”/209 – Had a couple of shutouts but also a couple of less-than-awesome games. Played on the US Youth Olympic Team in February. Minnesota native will be playing for the Sioux City Musketeers. Vancouver 10th round pick in WHL Bantam Draft. (3.60/.895)
