Loomis Takes Over Top Spot in USHR Prep Poll
Loomis (6-1-1) is the new #1 in this week's USHR Prep Poll, knocking off last week's #1, Kimball Union. Both teams suffered their first defeat of the season at the weekend's Christmas tournaments, with Loomis losing to Avon, 2-1, in the title game at the Avon Old Farms Christmas Classic, while KUA bowed to eventual champion Deerfield, 1-0, in their first game at the Flood-Marr Tournament Friday.

KUA #1 in First USHR Poll of the Season
The first USHR prep poll of the 2016-17 season is now posted, and Kimball Union Academy (7-0-0) is in the top spot.
The first week or two of this campaign has been a little odd, and nowhere is that more apparent than in the case of Williston-Northampton, which last season didn't get its third win until Jan 13th. This year, they got it on Saturday, with a 4-1 win over defending prep champions Gunnery. Earlier, Williston bombed Salisbury, 6-1. But they also took a couple losses, getting crushed by KUA, 7-1, and by Cushing, 6-2. Williston is certainly better, but how much better we don't yet know. They did not make the cut in this week's poll.
Salisbury (3-1-1) didn't make the cut either -- and when was the last time that happened? If they have a better Flood-Marr Tournament than they did a year ago you can expect them back in the race.
We expect there will be far more clarity after the avalanche of prep games between this Thursday and Sunday.
We also have a gut feeling that a greater number of teams will make an appearance in the top 10 than last year, or perhaps any other year. Time will tell. And there will be nine more polls before the end of the regular season.
